Just Like Mine - Hounds to Hooves - Love and Care When You're Not There

I'm Doreen Haugh and Just Like Mine - Hounds to Hooves has been the natural outgrowth of a lifetime of loving and caring for animals of all varieties. As a young child, I used to bring home every stray or lost dog that I could persuade to follow me. My mom says that I would use my jump rope as a leash! I loved them up and cared for them until their owners came to retrieve them or until we found them a home. We finally got a puppy of our own when I was six years old and the rest, as they say, is history.

My family of critters has included everything from horses to snakes and even my good friend, Snowball - a sweet white rat who used to sit on my shoulder.  I believe that every creature has its own unique purpose and brings gifts and richness to our lives if we allow it.

Over the years, my friends and family have come to me whenever they've had a pet question or their pets needed care in their absence. And I love it! They always joke that if they ever come back in another life, they want to come back as my dog!

I often wondered about the feasibility of earning a living caring for animals. Too frequently for many of us, the fear of failing keeps us from trying new things. And so, after 20 years enjoying a successful career in the mortgage finance industry, I decided to jump to a different ladder - one that allows me to explore an alternatate sense of purpose and satisfaction.

But what I do is so much more than pet sitting to me. It is my hope that each of my clients truly feels that I live up to the name of my business and that their cherished pets are loved and taken care of just as if they are my own.

There is no greater job satisfaction than that!

Pepper is our bunny rabbit that we rescued after her owners set her free to fend for herself. She is now litter box trained and has run of my bedroom. Skippy and Pepper have become good, good friends and a more unlikely pair I couldn't have imagined!

Skippy and Libby - my silly book ends.

Sketch is our 4 year old corn snake. We've had him since he was a baby when he was the size of a pencil. He's now about three and a half feet long and he's got a great personality! He enjoys curling up in the hood of my sweatshirt and keeping me company while I'm out gardening.

This is my horse Dreamer from back in a year much too long ago to mention!
